Music finds a new place: The Music Chronicles

Since music always takes some space over design here ( and it should not), I decided to give it a new home: from now on, everything that has something to do with music and me will be posted in The Music Chronicles. I have already transferred all the posts regarding my Poplie radio shows there (and the download links too) and will keep it informed with album reviews I will be writing for a free press monthly and presenting music that I like from time to time, concert reviews etc. So join me there if you like music and want to see what I like about it!

Poplie radio show, 17th of January 2010

Travelling again to Vienna meant spending some time with the local music scene artists - what more natural than featuring them on our Poplie radio show? Trouble Over Tokyo, Paper Bird, Chris and The Other Girls (also a graphic designer) and Across The Delta have two tracks each in the playlist. Download the show as usual from the right side of this blog.

Poplie radio show, 10th of January 2010

This Sunday's show was, in contrast to the previous dance-electronic one, more acoustic pop. You can download it from the right side of the blog. Enjoy!

Poplie radio show, 27th of December 2009

Last radio show at Poplie radio for 2009. Lucky enough I have finished already with the year's review and countdown, so I felt free to play anything! An eclectic mix then, ranging from eastern melodies to trip-hop and dubstep. I hope you enjoy the show and see you on the next one on the 3rd of January! Feel free to download the show from the right hand column of the blog!

Poplie radio show, 20th of December 2009

This time around I had my full top-20 album of the year countdown on the show, from no.20 up to no.1. There was enough time to include my top-10 albums of the decade also. The bonus track: as a 2010 harbinger, Groove Armada's I Won't Kneel. I did not queue the track from my no.6 album of the year though (XX's self titled début) so you will not hear Intro at all. The radio show is available to download on the right of this blog.

Poplie radio show, 13th of December 2009

This past Sunday on my radio show I continued with the top-20 album countdown for 2009 and the decade (see relative posts in the blog every day) up until no.8. The second hour of the show was dedicated to Sade, who released their new song, Soldier of Love last week. Their new album won;t be out till February of 2010, so for the show's last hour I played many Sade favourites and ended it with Soldier Of Love. As always you can find the show on the right column of the blog, if you want to listen to it again.

Poplie radio show, 6th of December 2009

I included songs from my countdown albums up to number 15 in this show, both from this year's top-20 as well as from the decades chart. It made for a very interestingly diverse first hour. The second part was mostly favourite artists in not so well known songs. The countdown will continue into the next show as well. If one follows my everyday posts about it, they will figure out the first hour of next week's show as well. Link for downloading the show is on the right column of the blog as always.

Poplie radio show, Sunday 29th of November 2009

This week's show on Poplie was dedicated to dance tracks. Happy, up-beat stuff to make us all dance while making the morning Sunday coffee or preparing Sunday lunch or reading the Sunday papers... hope you enjoy it! Of course you can download it from the link at the right side of this blog, as always. Click on the image to see the playlist.

Poplie radio show, Sunday 22nd of November 2009

This particular radio show on poplie was dedicated to Thessaloniki's 50th International Film Festival, ending today. All the songs featured are used in film soundtracks, either written originally for them or not. Anthony Warlow's version of "The Music Of The Night" from The Phantom Of The Opera is included instead of the film score's Gerard Butler's version as I consider it the best ever recorded. Also the Massive Attack "Safe From Harm" track was featured on The Insider OST in the Perfecto Mix version (the one played on the show is the album original one).

Poplie radio show, Sunday 15th of November 2009

Last Sunday's radio show at Poplie is ready for download for all of you who missed the live one - just check the link on the right side of the blog. And I hope you like this week's background image for the playlist (click on it to see it bigger). Since 2006, NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has been orbiting Mars, currently circling approximately 300 km (187 mi) above the Martian surface. On board the MRO is HiRISE, the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment camera, which has been photographing the planet for several years now at resolutions as fine as mere inches per pixel. Poplie radio show, Sunday 8th of November 2009

Special show today as it is my name day celebration! Featuring voices that I love listening to, most of the singers heard today on the show have played a major part in shaping my early musical influences. From the breathy, ethereal voice of Olivia Newton-John to the raspy voice of Kim Carnes, through jazz-influenced Joni Mitchell and Rickie Lee- Jones to exotic Kate Bush, women's voices are dominating the playlist. You can download the show from the right side of this blog. I hope you enjoy it! Background photo by Irving Penn.

Poplie radio show, Sunday 1st of November 2009

The first show for November had the first hour seemingly in business as usual mode, but he second hour was filled with atmospheric songs, ethereal voices and a magnificent piano ending courtesy of Philip Glass; although the piece is from 1988, I first heard it on the Battlestar Galactica series, hence the background photo. If you click on it, you can see the playlist . Hope you enjoy the show, which can be downloaded from the right column of this blog.

My first radio show at Poplie!

Just started a weekly radio show on Poplie internet radio. It is on every Sunday at noon and for two hours I will be playing my favourite tunes, mostly new stuff but old ones as well! I will also try to mention things relevant to design (like today, I said that the Ebony Bones track is the soundtrack to the video of YSL's Manifesto for this season). Here is my playlist for today's show (click on it to see it larger):
